Creating a New Image
Photoshop doesn’t start the image-editing process with a blank slate. Rather, you use a special type of file called a document. You can open a new document, which starts the editing process, by choosing File⇒New or pressing Shift+Ctrl+N (Shift+⌘+N).

The work area is where you perform all the image editing. The work area is also where you apply the last edit — that is, the most recent adjustment you made. The toolbox contains the tools used for the editing process and is used for saving your work.

Creating a New Image in Photoshop
To create a new image, follow these steps:
1. Open Photoshop.
2. Choose File⇒New or press Shift+Ctrl+N (Shift+⌘+N).
3. The New dialog box opens. (See Figure 1-3.)
4. In the Template drop-down menu, choose Photo Editor from the list. Then choose the size of your image. The size options include
• Original: This is the original image size.
• Wide: This image size increases the width by a factor of 1.333.
• Tall: This image size increases the height by a factor of 1.333.
• Portrait: This creates a portrait image, increasing the height by a factor of 2.
• Landscape: This creates a landscape image, increasing the width by a factor of 2.
