This is the Resident Evil 5 of this console generation. The story is deep, the character dynamics are complex, and the approach of the game is entirely different than what people are used to. That’s not to say it’s perfect — but there’s nothing horribly wrong with it either.
To come home, you must make it to Resident Evil 6‘s final, grim ending. You find that here, too. Capcom doesn’t pull any punches. Resident Evil 6 doesn’t make you forget Resident Evil 4, but it also doesn’t shy away from the shortcomings of the series. This is the culmination of all the mistakes and mistakes that took place in the series up to this point.
The graphics are impressive. Our Xbox one testing unit kept us inside the fully painted world of the game for almost all of our playtime, with only occasional moments of the menu system popping in. Most of the action, however, was fully immersed in the game, sometimes with light backlighting giving little of the thin photorealistic models any shine, while everything else appeared robust.
While some of the less engaging side quests have either been eliminated or streamlined, the most important elements of the series — puzzles and exploration — have been fully upgraded for this generation. For example, you now have a full arsenal of items at your disposal, from throwing knives, handguns, and grenade launchers to melee weapons, lightsabers, and even magic wand-like staffs. And when things get dangerous, you can pull out the trusty NVDRS-92 submachine gun, the menacing and massively powerful Resident Evil 6 spray gun or the introduction of the tranquilizer rifle, and use whatever’s most appropriate for the situation.
You can even upgrade your arsenal over time. Each gun or melee weapon has a single upgrade that can be tracked through the entire game, with certain attributes modified by a skill tree. By collecting and upgrading these more powerful items, Resident Evil 6 delivers a wide range of new possibilities and combat styles, resulting in some of the most exciting combat sequences we’ve seen in recent games.

resident evil 7 is a very specific game. it’s way too weird for me to justify purchasing another re game at this point. the re games have a specific vibe that is strong, and it’s one that i can’t quite replicate with other games.
and then there’s resident evil 6. this is the great-great-granddaddy of the series, and it’s also one of the few games i have played in the series that i think i got something out of. i enjoyed playing it, but it was too repetitive and, for me, a bit too random. i liked the story and the setting, but in the end i never felt any connection to its main characters, just as i never connected to any of the characters in resident evil 4. to this day, i still don’t have the faintest idea why i kept playing resident evil 4 after i beat it. i don’t know what i was looking for. i don’t know if i was looking for the same resident evil 5 experience, or if i was trying to relive the experiences of my childhood. i don’t know, but i did keep playing it for more than a year, and i never felt any connection.
when you’ve played resident evil 6 once, you’ve played it. the series has a sort of built-in feeling of repetition that you can’t really replicate. if you’re a fan of the series, i suggest that you play through this game at least once if you haven’t yet. otherwise, you might be missing out on one of the greatest horror games of all time.
